School Rugby
At
present the school has three rugby teams, the U18 side the U15 side
and the S1/S2 team.
The
school is supported by Strathendrick Rugby Football club in coaching
and running the senior team. Mr. Macquarrie coordinates the school
rugby and runs the U15 squad. Mr. McIllwane in the Mathematics
department is the S1/S2 coach.
The
teams have had a successful season competing in a variety of
competitions around the country.

The
U18 teams also took part in the Perth Academy 7’s where they
finished second in their pool after beating Madras College, Perth
Academy, Waid Academy, Kinross High School. The team were beaten by
North Berwick who went on to win the competition. The top try
scorers were Scott McCabe with seven tries and James Cuthbertson
with 5 tries.
In
the local events the team beat McLaren High in the semi-final of the
Schools Cup to meet Wallace High in the Final. Unfortunately the
team were beaten by a strong Wallace High team.
At
the McLaren 7’s the boys won their group convincingly beating
McLaren, Alloa, and Alva B. Again they qualified for the final and
were again beaten by Wallace High. Scott McCabe was again top
scorer in this event scoring 8 tries including a hat-trick in the
final.
It was a good final year for the team who began playing together as
minis at Strathendrick and were guided through their rugby by
Charlie Johnstone of Strathendrick R.F.C.

Balfron Rugby 7’s
This
year saw the inaugural Hockey and Rugby 7’s held at the school.
Three schools were invited Lomond School, Lenzie Academy and
Dunblane High School. In the group round-robin Balfron were beaten
by Lomond but defeated both Lenzie and Dunblane to qualify for the
Final.
The
team met Lomond in the Final and came out 19-12 winners. The tries
were scored by Peter Sunderland, Sam Greenock and Benn Williams, who
also scored all 3 conversions.
The
U15 team have done extremely well this year and special mentions
must go to Peter Sunderland, Benn Williams, Geoff Truscott, Jamie
Pugh, David Brown and Craig Hunter.
S1/S2 Results
The
S1/S2 team have played in a number of festivals this term and have
proved too strong for the opposition. Good performances have come
from a number of players including Sam Greenock, Max Summers, Fraser
MacKay and Mathew Lamb. |
