Honoured Guest: The Creative Writer’s Group welcomes their
first “Writer in Residence”.
Supported in part by a grant awarded from Scottish Book Trust’s Live
Literature Scotland fund, this month the BHS Creative Writers’ Group
will welcome author and lecturer Valerie Thornton for the first of
four consecutive tutoring sessions. During Valerie’s visits, she’ll
work one-on-one with the young BHS writers, helping each of them to
develop a piece of original writing. This is a special opportunity
for these pupils to work closely with a nationally-recognised author
and lecturer.
Valerie is a poet, short story writer, teacher, lecturer, editor,
Fellow at the University of Glasgow and Fellow with the Royal
Literary Fund. For over 20 years, her poems and short stories have
appeared in literary magazines and anthologies in the UK, Ireland,
Europe (in translation), Canada and America. She has is the
recipient of numerous literary prizes.
The CWG is indeed honoured to welcome Valerie as their “Writer in
Residence” for 2007.
