Brief description of the principles/rationale of
homework for S2 Technical Studies
Within the S2 Design Technology course the homework
issued to pupils is designed to further enhance their knowledge and
understanding of the three core elements within the department:
Practical Craft Skills, Product Design and Graphic Communication.
Homework activities for each of these subjects
differ greatly and the homework that is issued corresponds to the
concepts and techniques that have been covered within the class time.
The homework that is issued is therefore designed to further consolidate
the information taught throughout the subject lesson.
Type of homework
Graphic Communication
Consolidation of: Measurement, basic rendering
techniques, isometric drawing, orthographic drawing, one point
perspective and two-point perspective.
All homework for graphic communication in S2 will
be designed to develop and improve on techniques and concepts learned
within the classroom.
Product Design
Homework issued within the
Product Design course will look to improve pupils’ knowledge of the
design process and each step within it.
Homework may include finishing
off class work, undertaking further practice of work covered in class as
well as formal homework exercises that are aimed at consolidating
information they have learned previously.
Practical Craft Skills
Homework issued within the Practical Craft Skills
section of S2 Design Technology will look to consolidate the tools and
processes that have been used within the workshop environment. It
should however, be noted, that as this section of the course is
predominantly practical and pupils are not required to consolidate with
homework to the same degree as with Product Design and Graphic
Communication. The main concentration of homework will be the reviewing
of classroom worksheets prior to small class tests, which the pupils
will receive at the end of each practical project.
Frequency and expected duration
In S2 pupils are expected to undertake an average
of around 20-30 minutes homework per week, which is split between the
three Design Technology subjects.
Homework frequency may also depend on the amount of
work pupils have completed during class time however pupils should
expect to receive at least one piece of homework each week.
In addition to this, pupils are encouraged to look
over the work they have completed each day in class in order to
consolidate the information and increase familiarity with that
particular topic. |
