AIM OF COURSE
The main aim of the Technical Education course is to give pupils an
opportunity to develop problem-solving skills in the areas of
Practical Craft Skills, Product Design, and Graphical Communication.
COURSE CONTENT
Pupils follow a modular course consisting of 3 interrelated units:
Practical Craft Skills:
Practical Craft Skills offers each pupil an
opportunity to have a hands-on experience of a variety of processes
and tools, through several projects based around metal, wood and
plastic. This area will be assessed through the quality of project
construction and finish, as well as tool and process recognition
homework questions and class tests
Product Design:
An element of design is accentuated through the Product Design
element of the course, where pupils are encouraged to develop an
awareness of design conceptualisation and the "Design Process" in
their practical project work. This area will be assessed through the
quality of design and analysis contained in pupils project folios,
as well as design homework exercises and class tests.
Graphic Communication:
The Graphic Communication course provides each pupil with the
opportunity to develop their understanding of both formal and
freehand drawing through a broad course. This course includes
illustration and presentation, technical drawing and computer aided
design. This area will be assessed through classroom task sheets for
both formal and informal drawing, as well as graphic homework
exercises and class tests.
ASSESSMENT
Throughout the course, assessment is continuous with the aim of
producing a profile of pupils' skills and achievements. This is
built up by assessment of classwork, short class tests and homework
exercises. |
