In S1, all pupils study social subjects, which includes units on Geography, History and Modern Studies.  Pupils will be taught by the same teacher for all three of these units.  From 2007/08, pupils are taught along with the rest of their form class.  This means that Balfron High school is able to offer smaller class sizes, typically twenty or fewer.  We believe that this will have a beneficial effect in helping to ease the transition from Primary to Secondary education.  Pupils attend social subjects for three periods each week.
