S5/6 Intermediate2 Product Design
During the year there are three units to be
covered with in Higher Product Design, Unit 1 – Design Analysis, Unit 2
– Developing Design Proposals and Unit 3 – Manufacturing Products. As
well as these units a Design Assignment will be completed during class
time which is worth 50% of the overall grade and exam preparation will
take place. At no time should pupils be working on any
work for their Design Assignment at home. This is purely a school based
project and is not allowed to be completed at home.
Type of homework
Homework for each of these units will be given
at varying times throughout the year, depending on the type of work
being covered. Within Unit2 the homework will focus on the extension
and consolidation of core design proposal principles. With During Unit 3
the homework will be based on the further research and investigation of
materials and there properties, and the processes which allow
manufacturing of such materials. The only time this may differ is
during exam preparation time as they may be given work in class e.g.
practice questions and then asked to complete them at home for the next
time they are in class. This will not happen if the next period of
Product Design is the following day.
Frequency and expected duration
On each occasion homework is given out, a period
of 1 week will be given, for pupils to complete it. In S5/6, the general
frequency will be once or twice per week, dependent on unit being
covered. Also, on occasions where pupils have not covered appropriate
amount of work in the classroom this may be extended via completion at
home. |
