Higher
Homework Brief description
of the principles/rationale of homework for Higher Physics
In Higher Physics, 60% of the overall marks are
allocated to Problem Solving and only 40 % to Knowledge &
understanding. So although it is very important that pupils learn and
consolidate their knowledge of basic facts, it is more important that
they are able to solve problems that require an understanding of the
principles involved. Similarly, being able to answer questions that
require a detailed explanation of the principles involved can produce
significant progress. The homework issued in this course is targeted to
address these issues.
Towards the end of the year the focus is on exam
practise and preparation for the type of questions asked in the SQA
exam.
Type of homework
Personal research
Exam questions
Short answer questions
Reading newspapers and researching new stories
linked to the course.
Frequency and expected duration
Formal exercises will be issued every week
(approx) and each exercise should take the pupil about 1 hour to
complete. Usually pupils will be given 4 days to complete and return
the exercise.
Very often, a teacher will issue questions based
on work carried out that day. This work may be requested for the next
day, but such work should not take more than 20 minutes to complete.
Students have
summary and research materials that allow them to study a topic of
interest in there own time. The course profile contains very useful
information that can be used to assist the completion of homework in
Physics. |
