S1 and S2 Physical
Education
AIMS OF COURSE
The specific aims are to enable pupils to
improve their physical performance by developing the abilities
underlying those skills which are fundamental to physical activities
and by practising and refining techniques.
In Physical Education, it is within the context of engaging in
Physical Activities that pupils develop creative responses
(Expressing) critical appreciation (Evaluating) and interpersonal
skills. They also experience and gain knowledge and understanding
of the role of exercise in good health; and develop a positive
attitude to an active lifestyle and a concern for physical
well-being. The notion of health-related Physical Education is
recognised as central to attaining the above aims.
COURSE CONTENT
The First and Second Year course is designed to make best use of the
new P.E. facilities while affording the pupils an opportunity to
gain experience in a variety of activities. These activities would
include for example, outdoor team games such as Hockey, Football,
Rugby and Softball; indoor team games such as Basketball;
Gymnastics; Expressive Movement and Social Dance; individual
sports such as Badminton, Short Tennis and Swimming; fitness
activities such as Aerobics, Circuit Training and Cross Country
Running.
Further participation in most of these activities is provided extra-curricularly
through the school inter-house sports competitions and in both
Regional and National events.
ASSESSMENT
Assessment of practical performance is undertaken continuously
throughout the teaching block. Expressing and Evaluating are
assessed in a written test linked to video stimulus at various
points throughout the course. |
