Students have regular homework
for French and German. The following suggestions are excellent ways to help
your child make progress in a foreign language and can be done even if you
don't speak the language yourself (you could always learn with them!)
1. Encourage them by reminding them how important
it is nowadays to know another language other than English.
2. Check their planner to see what homework
they have, it might be...
| a) memorising vocabulary from their
jotter/sheets |
| b)
preparing for a Writing or Speaking assessment |
| c)
work from a worksheet
|
| d)
doing a first draft or a good version of a writing exercise
|
| e)
making a poster |
Please note: your child will
ALWAYS have homework for French/German, either written, memorising
vocabulary or preparation for a Writing or Speaking assessment (which in
S3/S4 account for 50% of their overall grade).
3. Practise vocabulary with them twice
a week. Firstly - cover the English to see if they recognise the
words and secondly then cover the French and see if they can put the
English words into French.
4. Encourage them to use the Internet
- use this link to take
you to a list of some excellent sites which are fun, educational and a very
good back-up to class work.
5. Encourage them to buy a French
magazine. These can be ordered through your child's teacher and are packed
with up-to-date words and expressions, puzzles and games. And what's more,
reading for pleasure is fun!
6. Ask them to explain grammar rules to you.
7.
Encourage them to keep their folder organised
and tidy.
