Intermediate 2 Mathematics
AIMS OF COURSE
The course aims to build
on previous mathematical experience. It contains mathematical
techniques useful in everyday life and abstract mathematical
concepts are introduced.
Entry to the course
Normally students should
have obtained:
Students who have not
achieved at least a Grade 3 for Knowledge and Understanding
and at least a Grade 3 for Reasoning and Enquiry at Standard Grade
will find this course very challenging.
Students who have not
achieved an A at Intermediate 1 will find this course very
challenging.
Course Outline
The course is made up of
three units, Mathematics 1, 2 and 3.
Mathematics 1
includes:
-
calculations involving percentages
-
using formulae to find volumes of spheres,
cones and prisms
-
linear relationships in the form of
sketches
-
finding the equations of straight lines
-
multiplication and factorisation of
algebraic expressions

trigonometry –
the area of a triangle formula, the Sine and Cosine rules
-
simultaneous linear
equations
-
use of graphs, charts
and tables
