S1 Home Economics
AIM OF COURSE
To provide activities
which will enable pupils to acquire the Knowledge and Skills
required for Healthy Living and to form a basis on which they can
develop informed attitudes.
COURSE CONTENT
The course consists of 8 units completed by all pupils.

1 In the
Kitchen |
This is a
practical based unit where pupils will prepare a variety of
dishes and become familiar with tools and cookers. Food
hygiene and safety will also be covered.

2 Eat Well
Feel Well
|
Pupils will
consider Healthy Eating as they prepare a range of dishes.
|
|
3 Be a Smart
Sew & Sew and Celebrate |
Pupils will
learn how to use the Sewing Machine and will Design and Make
fabric and food for Christmas.

|
4 Going for
Green
|
Pupils will
consider the influence they can have on the environment and
will Design and Make using re-cycled materials.
|
|
5 Food for
Thought |
This unit will
re-inforce the Scottish Diet Guidelines as pupils prepare a
range of healthy dishes.

6 Product
Development |
Pupils will
consider how Technology affects food products as they design
and make a range of dishes.
|
|
7 Rise to the
Occasion |
This unit will
involve pupils in writing a letter of invitation to a tea
party, preparing food for this and welcoming and
entertaining guests.

8 Smart
Shopping |
This unit will
provide pupils with the skills required in becoming a
Careful Shopper. |
ASSESSMENT
Pupils will be
assessed continuously throughout the course in the 2 areas -
Knowledge and Skills. |
