-
To provide them with a
sound basis of knowledge and skills which will equip them to
deal with the practical issues of life.
-
To develop skills
relating to the critical and informed choice of resources to
develop a Healthy Lifestyle within a sustainable environment.
-
To equip pupils with
organisational and management skills.
-
To help pupils to
acquire knowledge and understanding of the physical needs of
individuals in the home and the wider community.
-
To promote values such
as co-operation to others in school and the wider community.
Courses offered seek to
promote the subject as relevant to all pupils and take account of
young people’s developing maturity and independence and are equally
relevant to both boys and girls. Today’s society needs people who
have developed essential ‘life skills’ and who can cooperate in
shared endeavours, who are imaginative and creative and who
understand the physical and emotional needs of their fellow beings.
Home Economics makes a valuable contribution to the development of
these skills and attributes and also makes a significant
contribution to pupils’ personal and social development,
particularly in the area of Health Education. |
