S3 Standard Grade Graphic Communication
Graphic Communication is split into three distinct areas: Knowledge &
Interpretation, Drawing Ability and Design Portfolio. The main focus of
homework exercises will be related to Knowledge & Interpretation and
Drawing Ability areas. However, in 3rd year most drawing
ability work will be practiced through freehand drawing, but in 4th
year we will encourage further consolidation of Drawing Abilities work
through the use of a drawing board and equipment at home.
Type of homework
At the start of S3 all pupils are issued with a
Course Glossary and Homework Book One. The glossary contains valuable
information on a range of topics, as well as a list of commonly used
words in context. Homework will take the shape of: Short knowledge and
interpretation exercises covering all aspects of the knowledge and
interpretation; revision of glossary booklet (which will prepare the
pupils for regular class test).
Frequency and expected duration
On each occasion homework is given out, a period
of 1 week will be given, for pupils to complete it. In S3, the general
frequency will be once a fortnight. Duration of homework exercises would
commonly take a pupil about 30 minutes to complete, however in relation
to glossary work this would be better approached over three or four
evenings using about 10 minutes on each occasion to consolidate and
memorise. Also, there may be an odd occasion where pupils have not
covered appropriate amount of work in the classroom this may be extended
via completion at home.
S4 Standard Grade Graphic Communication
Graphic Communication is split into three distinct areas: Knowledge &
Interpretation, Drawing Ability and Design Portfolio. The main focus of

Drawing Ability areas. In pupils 4th year we have a bigger
focus on preparation for their final exams and encourage where possible
further consolidation of Drawing Abilities work, through the use of a
drawing board and equipment at home.
