S5 Higher Graphic Communication
Higher Graphic Communication is split into two distinct areas: Technical
Graphics and Thematic Presentation. The main focus of homework exercises
will be related to Knowledge & Interpretation areas of Technical
Graphics e.g. BS symbols, CAD, Construction etc.. In the Higher course
pupils will have the opportunity to develop preliminary drawing work for
their thematic presentation at home. Where possible we would also
encourage consolidation of Technical Graphics skills, through the use of
a drawing board and equipment at home.
Type of homework
At the start of S5 all pupils are issued with a
Course Glossary, which will continue to be used throughout the year, as
well as a Homework Book Three. The glossary contains valuable
information on a range of topics, as well as a list of commonly used
words in context. Homework will take the shape of: Short knowledge and
interpretation exercises covering all aspects of the knowledge and
interpretation of Technical Graphics; revision of glossary booklet
(which will prepare the pupils for regular class test). We will also
take time to consolidate knowledge through the use of past paper
questions, which will be set for or completed at home.
Frequency and expected duration
On each occasion homework or revision of
glossary is given out, a period of 1 week will be given, for pupils to
complete it. In S5, the general frequency will be once or twice a week.
Duration of homework exercises would commonly take a pupil about 30
minutes to complete, however in relation to glossary work this would be
better approached over three or four evenings using about 10 minutes on
each occasion to consolidate and memorise. Also, there may be an odd
occasion where pupils have not covered appropriate amount of work in the
classroom this may be extended via completion at home and we would
always recommend Higher pupils to read or attempt questions in advance
of new topic areas. Much of the resources used within the classroom are
available to access through the secure section of the school website. |
