Standard Grade Drama
AIMS OF COURSE
To increase awareness and understanding of drama and theatre.
Through language, movement and theatre activities, to explore a
range of values, opinions and relationships.
To encourage the development of the organisation, negotiation and
communication skills needed for working constructively with others.
COURSE CONTENT
Through a series of units pupils will learn specific drama skills
and use them to explore themes in both script-based and
improvisational work. Pupils are encouraged to use their
imagination and to work in groups of various sizes. Pupils will
also enjoy numerous opportunities to visit local theatre productions
and to meet and work with drama professionals.
The course is made up of three differing elements:
Creating
This element involves skills such as taking on roles and using space
and resources such as props and costumes to explore ideas.
Presenting
This element involves gaining practical experience of a number of
theatre production skills such as directing, set building,
stage-lighting, sound, prop making and make-up etc.. Pupils will be
encouraged to present work to a range of audiences and to work
intensively on scripts in an actual stage environment.
Knowledge and Understanding
During the course each pupil’s practical experience and
understanding of drama and theatre will be expanded. Pupils are
encouraged to consolidate their knowledge through evaluating
productions by professional drama groups as well as their own work
and that of their classmates.
ASSESSMENT
The class teacher assesses all Creating and Presenting work during
the course. Knowledge and Understanding is assessed at the end of
the course in a written examination. There is one exam paper for
all levels - Foundation, General and Credit. An external examiner
will mark this exam paper. |
