COURSE  CONTENT

Through a series of units pupils will learn specific drama skills and use them to explore themes in both script-based and improvisational work.  Pupils are encouraged to use their imagination and to work in groups of various sizes.  Pupils will also enjoy numerous opportunities to visit local theatre productions and to meet and work with drama professionals.

The course is made up of three differing elements:

Creating

This element involves skills such as taking on roles and using space and resources such as props and costumes to explore ideas.

Presenting

This element involves gaining practical experience of a number of theatre production skills such as directing, set building, stage-lighting, sound, prop making and make-up etc..  Pupils will be encouraged to present work to a range of audiences and to work intensively on scripts in an actual stage environment.

Knowledge and Understanding

During the course each pupil’s practical experience and understanding of drama and theatre will be expanded.  Pupils are encouraged to consolidate their knowledge through evaluating productions by professional drama groups as well as their own work and that of their classmates.

ASSESSMENT

The class teacher assesses all Creating and Presenting work during the course.  Knowledge and Understanding is assessed at the end of the course in a written examination.  There is one exam paper for all levels - Foundation, General and Credit.  An external examiner will mark this exam paper.
