Art and Design Studies
The Art and Design
Studies unit will continue weekly throughout the session and run
concurrently with both the Expressive and Design practical units, which
it is designed to support. The broad areas of study will be covered
before the prelim exam in February, with the unit assessment materials
completed soon after. Revision, consolidation and exam practice
questions will continue until the SQA exam in May/June ’08. One period
per peek is used specifically to teach this activity and should be
supported through homework and private study.
Type of homework:
Essays on selected
artists and designers, with research based class-work, private study,
reading and utilising the internet.

Gogh, Cezanne or Cubism (Picasso or Braque)

Essay on two
selected expressive artists from different art movements.

NAB Assessment on
the Expressive Arts. This essay will be completed under controlled
conditions in class time, and will form part of the unit assessment
material. Study for this exam at home is essential.

Essay on the art
Nouveau or Art Deco movements in Design.

21st January ‘08
Essay on two
selected designers from different periods.
Week beginning 3rd
March ‘08
NAB Assessment on
Design. This essay will be completed under controlled conditions in
class time, and will form part of the unit assessment material. Study
for this exam at home is essential.
