Parental Involvement Bill

We are sure you will all know about the Parental Involvement Bill introduced last year.  This means that we all have a right to be on a Parent Forum for our School and many of us will be able to sit on a Parent Council at our school.  The prime objective of this new way of working is to encourage more participation by parents, in our schools, in all sorts of ways and to promote better communication between parents, pupils, community and school.

At Balfron High, the School Board has a history of successful working alongside the Management Team and encouraging communication between parents and the school.  We have engaged in a number of parent information evenings over the last 2 years and have attended parents evenings and open evenings.  We feel this is one of the major roles of the School Board.

Over the period that the Parental Involvement Bill is being introduced, we have discussed how we would work with the school to implement the change over from Board to Parent Forum and Parent Council.   We finally decided to spend 4 or 5 dedicated hours, carefully considering what the Parent Forum and the Parent Council should be about and how we could help inform all parents and encourage them to take an active part.

To date, we have produced a Draft Constitution for the Parent Council and we will require parents to approve that Draft Constitution.  We have also contacted all our primary cluster schools with a view to visiting the primaries to undertake a ‘Parent Forum Roadshow’ and talk with all high school parents and parents of children due to come up to High School.

The dates for our visits are on the Balfron High School Website and will be published as widely as possible, including through the primary schools.  Please come along and give us your views.
