Parent Forum & Parent Council
Parental Involvement Bill
Balfron High School
On the 10th May 2006 the Scottish Parliament passed a
new law called The Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006.
The aim of this act was designed to enable and encourage all
parents/guardians/carers (hereafter referred to as parents) to:
-
become involved with their child’s education and learning,
-
to welcome parents as active participants in the life of the school,
-
to provide easier ways for parents to express their views and wishes.
To help achieve these aims:
ALL PARENTS
WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE MEMBERS OF THE PARENT FORUM AT THEIR CHILD’S
SCHOOL AND WILL BE ENTITLED TO HAVE THEIR SAY IN WHAT HAPPENS AT THE
SCHOOL.
Following the initial meeting of the Parent Forum on
12th September 2007 a Parent Council was established and members
were invited to put their names forward for election.
The Parent Council drafted a Constitution that was circulated to all
parents for comments and suggestions before being finally adopted.
This Constitution can be viewed/downloaded on the
Parent Council web site.
The Parent Council aims to meet every second month during term time.
Minutes of the meetings, future meeting dates, and the aims
and objectives of the Parent Council are laid out in detail onthe
Parent Council web site.
The Parent Council would like to remind ALL PARENTS
that, as they are already members of the Parent Forum they are
welcome and encouraged to attend any or all of the Parent Council
meetings, where their input will be very welcome.
Those wanting to become more involved are eligible to
join one of the sub groups working on areas such as Careers,
Communications or Fund Raising, however, this is purely voluntary.
PLEASE COME
ALONG TO THE EVENING MEETINGS AND DISCOVER WHAT IS HAPPENING IN YOUR
CHILD’S SCHOOL.
